Residents of the areas of Buchanan County, Va., affected by recent flooding got good news this week as the Owens & Minor Foundation announced a $10,000 donation to United Way of Southwest Virginia’s Buchanan County 2022 Disaster Fund.

“At moments like this it’s especially important to us that we support the communities where we live and work,” commented Faith Cristol, president of the Owens & Minor Foundation. “Our hearts go out to those impacted by the devastating floods in Buchanan County. As a 140-year-old, Virginia based company, we’re proud to support the United Way of Southwest Virginia’s relief efforts.”

United Way of Southwest Virginia (UWSWVA) has been accepting donations and volunteer information for the long-term relief effort following the July 12 flooding in the Dismal River, Hale Creek, Jewell Valley, Patterson, Pilgrim’s Knob and Whitewood areas.

“The Owens & Minor Foundation’s generosity will directly benefit the families whose homes were damaged and whose lives were impacted by the floods,” said Travis Staton, UWSWVA president and CEO. “We simply could not offer the level of support we do without the benevolence of private foundations like Owens & Minor who care so much for their communities.”

Individuals or organizations wishing to donate to the Buchanan County 2022 Disaster Fund may do so by visiting unitedwayswva.org, texting the word GIVE to 276-200-2440, or by contacting Cristie Lester at 276.525.4071.
