10/14: Cox & Company & Sugar Run
New River Community College Fiddle, Banjo & Dance Club kicks off their 2017/18 Jamboree concert season on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 117 Edwards Hall at New River Community College’s Dublin campus.
New River Community College Fiddle, Banjo & Dance Club brings you a night of free bluegrass and old-time music featuring Cox & Company and Sugar Run.
Cox & Company is a traditional and contemporary bluegrass band based out of Southwest Virginia.
Frontman Joey Cox grew up in Pulaski County, Virginia, and was inspired at an early age to learn banjo and play bluegrass music. Shortly after graduating high school, he would spend the next 8 years on the road as a professional musician with bands that include BlueRidge, The Kenny & Amanda Smith Band, Lou Reid & Carolina, and the most well known Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.
Sugar Run began as the husband and wife team of Mike (banjo, guitar and vocals) and Bonnie Johnson (bass fiddle and vocals), and has grown to include Geoff White on fiddle and vocals, and Stanley Asbury on the rhythm and flat-pickin’ style guitar and vocals. All of them play in or with other groups in the region, as well.
Admission is free however, donations will be accepted to help travel expenses for the musicians.
The show is in 117 Edwards Hall at NRCC in Dublin.
Doors open at 5 pm and the music begins at 6:00 pm.
The monthly jamborees are held the second Saturday of each month October through April at New River Community College’s Dublin campus, a Crooked Road affiliated venue.
