10/7: Swing for Scholarships Golf Tournament
Radford Child Development, Inc. will host the fifth annual “Swing for Scholarships” golf tournament on Friday, October 7th at the beautiful Pete Dye River Course.
One hundred percent of the funds raised in this tournament go directly to “Carilion Cares for Children” tuition discounts at the Radford Early Learning Center and ROCK Club, to benefit families with demonstrated financial need. Twenty young children enrolled in these centers are currently receiving “Carilion Cares for Children” tuition discounts.
This Captain’s Choice tournament is a shotgun starting at 1 pm on Friday, October 7th. Foursomes can register prior to the day of the event for $600/foursome. Registration at the door (contingent on availability) is $600/foursome. Register online through the RCD website.
The golf tournament is possible through the generous support of the community. As Mr. Bill Flattery, CEO of the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center and RCD board member reflected, “When we invest in kids, everybody in society wins. It’s been shown over and over again, that when a child is ready for kindergarten, that child does better in school and better in life.”
Research indicates that supporting high-quality early learning programs strengthens communities by supporting economic growth. They make an area more attractive for new businesses and housing, support caregivers in the workforce or who are returning to school and provide a nurturing environment that helps build young children’s social skills. “One of our fundamental goals is to improve the affordability of the Center for all income levels in our community,” said Dr. Agida Manizade, president of the RCD board.
The 501(c)(3) Radford Child Development is a completely volunteer-run and led organization. It launched ten years ago with the mission to bring high-quality childcare and early education center to the Radford area. The result of this initiative is the Radford Early Learning Center, currently run by KinderCare Learning Centers under contract with RCD Inc. RELC is a Level 3 Virginia Quality facility and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
In addition to providing tuition discounts, RCD also works to provide support to teachers at RELC. If you would like to give to Radford Child Development, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax deductible donations are accepted through their website, www.radfordchilddevelopment.org. You can also enroll in Kroger Community Rewards and Amazon Smile programs. These businesses will donate a percentage of sales to RCD.
