John Cody Branscome, 90, of Indian Valley, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2008. Mr. Branscome served in the Navy on the USS Walter C. Wann during World War II and was a long time member of the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Daniel and Emmazetta Dalton Branscome; and a daughter, Maureen B. Dalton. Survivors include his wife, Irmyl Reece Branscome, of Indian Valley, Va.; son, John Michael Branscome, of Indian Valley, Va.; daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Gerald Bond, of Indian Valley, Va., Janet and Ted Hudson, of Chatham, Va.; granddaughters, Denise D. Stilwell and Dennis, of Willis, Va., and Heather Little and Jeff, of Raleigh, N.C.; grandsons, Allen Bond and Missy, of Indian Valley, Va., and Jeremy Cox and Lauren, of Chesterfield, Va.; and great-grandchildren, Holly Stilwell, Megan Bond, Jacob Little, Natalie Little and Morgan Little. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Allen T. Cherry and the Rev. Elmon Thompson officiating. Interment to follow in the Quesenberry Family Cemetery with Flag Presentation by Hillsville VFD Post # 1115. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Maberry Funeral Home. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Indian Valley Rescue Squad or Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home.
