07/19: Biologist to Speak on Evolution of Animals

Mountain Lake Biological Station announces the 32nd annual Walton Lecture event to be held Thursday, July 19 at 8:00 PM.  The Walton Lecture seeks to highlight prominent researchers in the fields of ecology, field biology, animal behavior, and evolution, and to provide a forum for discussion of topics related to ongoing station research.

This year’s lecture features Dr. Fredric Janzen of Iowa State University.  Dr. Janzen will be speaking about his decades-long research on the evolution of animals whose sex is determined by environmental factors.  Specifically, his lecture will focus on the effects of climate change on temperature-dependent sex determination in turtles.  A reception will follow on the Station grounds. For additional information on Dr. Janzen’s work, visit www.public.iastate.edu/~fjanzen/ .   More information about Mountain Lake Biological Station, including directions to the Station, is available at mlbs.org .
