Carrie Mae was born January 21, 1923 in Giato, West Virginia to the late Louis Hawkins and Catherine M. Hawkins. The family moved to Christiansburg, Va. shortly thereafter where Carrie Mae lived for the balance of her life.
Carrie Mae embraced Christianity at an early age and joined Asbury United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities. Carrie Mae was a Sunday School Teacher, Church Historian, a member of the United Methodist Women, and a Communion Steward. She was affectionately known by many as "Momma Carrie".
Carrie Mae was active in community service, particularly was Den Mother and District Representative of The Boy Scouts of America, Montgomery County Schools substitute teacher and PTA, Past Worthy Matron of Tri Community Chapter Order of the Eastern Stars No. 238, Past President and Treasurer of The Friendship Garden Club, First Treasurer of CII Alumni Association, member of United Methodist Women, member of NAACP, Electoral Board Official, and surrogate mother to many.
Carrie Mae is survived by her husband, Walter A. Price, Jr., of 64 years; sons, Walter III (Barbara) Christiansburg, Va., Louis Jerome, Owings Mills, Md., and Tony (Sherry) , Pinehurst, N.C.; grandchildren, Nicole M. Williams, Terence J. Price (Latrice), Katilya M. Price, Gwen F. Houston (Anthony), Anthony Shawn Price (Elizabeth), Anthony C. Price II, Brandon A. Norris (Melissa), Jason C. Price, and Bryan Williams; devoted niece, Lois La Blanc; three nephews, Kenneth Morris, Michael Morris, Linwood Shearrin Jr.; and 13 great-grandchildren. Carrie Mae was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Hawkins Morris and a brother, Louis G. Hawkins.
The Service of Death and Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, September 13 at 12 noon at Asbury UMC.with interment in Schaffer Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. The family suggest memorials be made to Asbury UMC, 500 Stuart St. Christiansburg, VA. Arrangements have been entrusted to Penn's Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va
