Cord Hall to run for Town Council

Christiansburg

cord_hallCord Hall announced his candidacy for Christiansburg Town Council on March 1, turning in nearly 200 signatures to the registrar’s office.

Hall, a lifetime Christiansburg resident, decided to run for Council as a result of his involvement with a neighborhood issue last year.

“Two years ago, I do not believe I would have been interested,” Hall said. But, after he and his neighbors temporarily halted a road extension that threatened the safety of his street, Hall took up the challenge of running for office.  ”That was a tough fight, at times some members of council made us feel not entirely welcome,” Hall said. But, when a very large number of residents repeatedly turned out in opposition, Council’s position softened.

“Seeing the faces of many members of our voting public simply caused those members of Council to take us seriously.”  Of his experience Hall said, “I learned that I do have a voice, and citizens do have a right to be heard. The council needs to treat citizens with issues, whether one person speaks or twenty people, with respect and attention.” Hall further stated, “Council should be held accountable for their actions, for their decisions, or for their failure to take a stance on an issue. The status quo gets us nowhere: a lot of empty talk with no action. Residents do have a voice, and if I am elected to Council, my efforts will ensure they also have an ear.”

Hall, 32, graduated from UVA School of Law and Radford University, after attending public schools in Christiansburg. He is a practicing attorney and very active in community organizations. Hall has never left the area he loves, refusing to move his family during his graduate studies, instead commuting himself five days a week to Charlottesville. Hall stated, “I just love my town, I could not imagine living anywhere else.”

Hall’s wife Kourtney has been a public school teacher for nine years. They have two daughters, Kelsey and Klaire. Hall is running for one of three open, at-large seats in the May 4, 2010 Christiansburg Town Council election.

As a town resident involved in the community I am happy to see a young, progressive, legally educated, visionary like Cord running for council.
We also have a new candidate running for mayor that has new ideas. Hopefully the two of them can begin to turn this town away from the "Good Ol' Boy" system and begin to run it fairly & equally.
