26th Annual 4th OF JULY PARADE in Blacksburg, Virginia. The Mount Tabor Ruritan Club is sponsoring the Twenty-sixth Annual Blacksburg 4th of July Parade. We invite you to join us with your floats, bicycles, wagons, marchers, walkers, antique cars, race cars, horses, fire engines, scouts, bands, sports teams, etc.
WHEN: Wednesday, July 4, 2012, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
ROUTE: Beginning at Old Blacksburg Middle School, Parade will end on Alumni Mall, near Tech’s Drillfield
CHECK-IN & LINE-UP: 1:30 p.m. — Line up on Eheart Street. (See attached map.) Line-up positions will be e-mailed to participants a few days before the parade. Mount Tabor Ruritan Club members will be on hand on Eheart Street to assist with line-up.
THEME: PRESERVING OUR HERITAGE
FLOAT LIMITATIONS: No more than 13 feet high. Candy may be passed out, but MUST NOT BE THROWN FROM VEHICLES. This is so that kids don’t run into the street near vehicle wheels to pick up candy. Vehicles must travel at parade speed and not accelerate towards spectators. Trophies will be awarded for Best Theme Representation, Best Youth Unit, and Best Overall Unit. Following the parade, the Lyric Theatre will screen a free movie, Field of Dreams, sponsored by Mount Tabor Ruritan Club.
Beginning at 6 p.m., the Blacksburg Parks & Recreation Department will have music, food and entertainment near the Blacksburg Recreation Center, ending with fireworks at 9:30 p.m.Click here for registration form and details
