06/21-22: Summer Solstice Fest and Carnival
Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. presents the 6th annual Summer Solstice Fest and Carnival which will include two days of summer fun in downtown Blacksburg. Friday June 21, Funtime Amusements will provide a carnival with games and rides for kids of all ages from 5-10pm in the parking lot of the First Church of God, Lee Street.
06/22: Old Pros Big Band Orchestra 40th Anniversary Concert/dance
The Old Pros Big Band Orchestra will celebrate its 40th anniversary at a special performance at New River Community College on Saturday, June 22. From 8 to 10 p.m. dancers (and listeners) will have the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of the Big Band Era in Edwards Hall, room 117, at New River Community College in Dublin.

06/20: VDOT Hearing on Rt 8 Improvements in Riner
The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a design public hearing on a proposed project to improve Route 8 (Riner Road) at the intersection of Route 669 (Union Valley Road and Fairview Church Road) in Montgomery County. The project will begin 0.237 mile south of Route 669 and end 0.191 mile north of Route 669.
06/18: World’s Largest Swim Lesson
The Christiansburg Aquatic Center will serve as an official host location for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ (WLSL) on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. The 2013 WLSL event will take place at 11 a.m. and includes a free 30-minute swim lesson.
Norwood Salon: Business of the Month
It’s just a few blocks on Main Street to a little slice of heaven, in the shape of a beauty salon and spa: the Norwood Salon, Main Street Radford’s business of the month for June. Since 1974, owner Tokie Kinser and staff at the Norwood Salon have been serving the Radford community. Now, 39 years later, the growth of the business has been remarkable.
06/25: VDOT Hearing on Bridge Replacements
The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a citizen information meeting on a proposed project to replace the Interstate 81 bridges over the New River and the Route 232 bridge over I-81 on the Montgomery and Pulaski County line.The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the City of Radford Municipal Building Council Chambers, 10 Robertson Street, in Radford.

Police Arrest 2 Men for Burglary
On June 17, 2013, at 10:40am, Blacksburg Police responded to the 400 block of Roanoke Street, SE, in reference to suspicious vehicle occupied by two male subjects. Shelor Motor Mile Jeep is partnering with Motor Mile Speedway and the New River Valley Jeep Club to support local armed forces and the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program on Saturday, May 19. From now through May 19, any member or veteran of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard and Reserve can bring his/her military id and receive 1 free admission to Motor Mile Speedway, 1 hot dog or chili dog and 1 soft drink for the Late Model Stock Car Speedway race at 7:00 pm that evening. Tickets and Food Vouchers must be picked up at Shelor Motor Mile Jeep prior to speedway race and will not be available at Motor Mile Speedway. In addition to honoring local Armed forces, the New River Jeep Club has planned several other events that day to celebrate a Jeep event called Go Topless Day. Members of the NRV Jeep Club will display their Jeeps at Shelor Motor Mile Jeep store from 2:00 to 4:00. At 4:00, members and any other local Jeep owners are invited to participate in a Trail Ride through parts of Montgomery, Giles and Pulaski counties. The ride route will be distributed that day or on their website, nrvjeepclub.com. The ride will culminate with a parade lap around Motor Mile Speedway at 6:30. Information display tables will be set-up at Motor Mile Speedway for the NRV Jeep Club and Virginia Wounded Warrior Programs.
