On Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., the Master Gardeners will hold a plant and garden sale at the Montgomery County Government Center. Plant and various garden items from decorated pots to garden books will be available. Proceeds benefit our grant program that distributes funds to local projects including Belview Elementary School and Heritage Hall. Please stop by and join in making this a successful day.
Share the Spare, a donation booth at the Blacksburg Farmers Market will begin its season May 12. We ask market patrons to consider buying one extra item and dropping it off at our basket. In its third year, our goal is to exceed previous totals from 2011 of collecting 1 ton of food to pass on to local perishable food pantries. Another ton was collected with Neighborhood Harvest. Also at the booth will be a plant clinic where Master Gardeners are available to answer your garden questions.
Plant a Row is a program encouraging local backyard gardeners to consider planting one more row with the intention of passing the harvest on to those in need of these healthy options. Information about this national program will also be available at the booth.
