Republican Primary Election is March 6th

voteThe Republican Presidential Primary will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Two candidates met the requirements to be on the ballot in Virginia for the primary: U.S. Representative Ron Paul and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. These will be the only two candidates appearing on the ballot. Virginia law specifically does not allow for write-in votes in primary elections and therefore no write-in votes will be counted.

Polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Due to local redistricting, polling place locations have changed for many voters. If you are unsure of your voting location after checking your voter information card and the State Board of Elections website (www.sbe.virginia.gov), please call your local general registrar.

Voters who are eligible to vote absentee may apply to do so by mail or in person. If you are uncertain if you are qualified to vote absentee, please visit the State Board of Elections website or contact the State Board of Elections at 1-800- 552-9745 or your local general registrar. Certain first time voters cannot vote absentee by mail.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is 5:00 pm on February 28, 2012. The deadline to apply and vote absentee in person is the close of business on March 3, 2012. Please contact your local general registrar for specific hours or visit the State Board of Elections website (www.sbe.virginia.gov) for more information on how to obtain an absentee application.
